Cougars Kick Off Inaugural Season with a 3-3 record at the Ripken Experience Tournament

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. –MARCH 10th, 2017 – The Chatham Cougars competed for the first time in program history with a six game varsity schedule at the Ripken Experience Tournament in Myrtle Beach. They concluded the week with a 3-3 record in their inaugural season.

The Basics
  • Tournament: The Ripken Experience
  • The Cougars took on the College of Staten Island, University of Valley Forge, Clarks Summit University and Dean College.
 
Game 1
  • The Cougars fell to the Dolphins of the College of Staten Island 8-0 in the first game.
  • Austin Ferris registered Chatham's first-ever hit with a single.
  • At end of the fourth inning, the score was CSI 1 Chatham 0.
  • Tyler Peyman and Hunter Steele tallied one hit apiece.
  • Adam Cerar pitched the first four innings allowing just three hits.
  • Jake Sweeney would pitch the final two innings.
 
Game 2
  • Chatham fell short of a comeback in the second game against the College of Staten Island with a final score of 9-7.
  • Carmen Jansante and Justin Silvious each recorded three hits.
  • Hunter Steele added two hits.
  • Drew Brannon went 1-for-3 at the plate as he led the Cougars with three runs batted in.
  • Connor Paul started the game off pitching for the Cougars for 2.2 innings.
  • Meier Parr pitched the next 2.1 innings.
  • Devin Shumaker would come in as the pitcher for the final two innings allowing just one hit.
 
Game 3
  • Chatham defeated Valley Forge 13-6 for the first win in program history.
  • Not only was this the first win for Chatham but it marks the first career win for Head Coach Timothy Banner.
  • Valley Forge would score three runs in the first inning.
  • Chatham would answer back with a combined nine runs in the second and fourth innings.
  • The fifth inning would see two Patriots runs, only to be matched by two final Cougar runs in the sixth.
  • Hunter Steele led the Cougars with five hits, two runs and two RBIs.
  • Carmen Jansante doubled in the fourth inning driving in two runs.
  • George Cedeno Jr. went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
  • Justin Silvious and Cedeno each tallied two hits.
  • Bryce Crawford was the starting pitcher for the Cougars seeing five innings with six strikeouts.
 
Game 4
  • Chatham earned the sweep of Valley Forge with a 6-1 win over the Patriots.
  • In the second inning, Cameron Moeller doubled to center field to drive in two runs.
  • Moeller and Austin Ferris would each earn two hits.
  • Nick Ramsey pitched the first two innings for the Cougars surrending zero hits and zero runs.
  • Devin Shumaker, Connor Paul and Meier Parr would each pitch one inning for the Cougars.
  • Adam Cerar would end the game on the mound for Chatham pitching for two innings.
  • Parr and Cerar would each throw two strikeouts apiece.
 
Game 5
 
Game 6
  • At the end of the sixth the Cougars had the lead over Dean College 8-5 but were unable to hold off the Bulldogs in the final innings, ultimately falling 10-8.
  • Paul Nussbaum recorded the first home run in program history. Nussbaum went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs.
  • Five Cougars would tally two hits.
  • Carmen Jansante registered two hits and two RBIs.
  • Justin Silvious earned two hits and one RBI.
  • Nick Ramsey hit a triple for two RBIs.
  • Michael Roussey would finish with two hits and two RBIs.
  • Adam Cerar pitched six innings for Chatham giving up ten hits, five runs with three strikeouts and one walk.

About Chatham Athletics 
Chatham University in Pittsburgh, PA is a member of the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) and offers nine Division III women's sports and seven men's sports. The athletic program is housed on Chatham's historic and beautiful Shadyside Campus in the $18 million, 74,000 square foot Athletic and Fitness Center (AFC). Women's sports at Chatham include basketball, cross country, ice hockey, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, track & field, and volleyball. Chatham will add women's lacrosse beginning play in 2017-2018. Chatham has added five men's sports competing this academic year: baseball, basketball, cross country, swimming & diving, track & field. Chatham will add two more men's varsity sports beginning play in 2017-2018; ice hockey and lacrosse.
