WASHINGTON, Pa. – Sixth-seeded Chatham Baseball (30-14, 13-9 PAC) dropped their second game at the PAC Tournament on Saturday night to Grove City (22-17, 14-8) by a 7-5 final score in 10 innings.
The Cougars got out to an early lead in the second inning, as
Matt Brandt's 2-RBI base hit brought in
Caleb Jones and
Cooper Baxter.
Devin Fluhmann's sac bunt brought Brandt across the plate, then
Hayden Woodward scored on an error to make the score 4-0 Chatham after two innings. The Cougars increased their lead to 5 in the third, as Jones drove in
Nolan Boehm when he reached on a fielder's choice. Jones would be Chatham's final baserunner of the game, and the Wolverines were able to score twice in the eighth inning to even the game at 5 before pushing 2 more runs across in the tenth for a comeback victory.
Boehm, Brandt and Woodward all went 1-4 at the plate and scored a run, with Brandt picking up 2 RBIs. Jones picked up the Cougars' lone extra-base hit of the evening, going 1-3 with a double, an RBI and a run.
Riley Baum made the start on the mound for Chatham, going five strong innings with 3 runs allowed on 6 hits with 6 strikeouts.
Ethan Botkin held the Grove City bats in check in his second outing of the day, allowing no runs with 4 Ks in his two innings of work.
Cooper Baxter relieve Botkin and pitched three innings, yielding 3 earned runs on 6 hits with 3 strikeouts.
The loss will wrap up the Cougars' first-ever appearance at the PAC Baseball Tournament. Grove City will take on W&J in tomorrow's Championship Round.
