Women’s Hockey Falls to Neumann 3-2 in Commonwealth Cup Championship

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Nov. 4, 2017 – The Chatham University women's hockey squad fell 3-2 to visiting Neumann in the championship game of the Commonwealth Cup tournament on Saturday at Alpha Ice Complex.
 
RECORDS: The Cougars move to 1-1-0 on the year while the Knights improve to 2-1-1.
 
WHAT'S NEXT: Chatham will remain at home and host UCHC foe Utica on Friday-Saturday, Nov. 10-11, at Alpha Ice Complex.
 
SCORING SUMMARY: After falling behind 2-0 in the first period, the Cougars got on the board with just 50 seconds left as senior defender Kasandra Petersen (Fairbaulit, Mich./Minnesota Blades) found the back of the net, thanks to an assist from sophomore defender Cassandra Gray (Allen Park, Mich./Team Detroit).
 
Chatham enjoyed the lone goal in the second period as senior forward Cassidy Colhoun (Kincardine, Ont./Saugeen-Mailland Lightning) took a feed from first-year defender Allison Stathakis (Northville, Mich./Culver Academy) for the equalizer at with less than four minutes to play.
 
With the game deadlocked at 2-2, Neumann's Bek Lucas scored the game winner at 16:06 in the third. Lucas was named MVP of the Tournament.
 
SHOTS LEADERS: Both Colhoun and Petersen led the Chatham attack with six shots each.
 
GOALTENDING: Senior netminder Sydney Isbell (Thunder Bay, Ont./Thunder Bay Queens) suffered the defeat, making 30 saves for Chatham, including 11 in the first period.
 
FACEOFFS: Colhoun won a game-high 18 draws for Chatham.

Chatham added two more men's varsity sports beginning play in 2017-2018; ice hockey and lacrosse, as well as men's squash, starting in 2018-19.
