Cougars Drop UCHC Opener to Utica 5-2

PITTSBURGH, PA. – Nov. 10, 2017 – Despite scoring the first goal on Friday, the Chatham University women's hockey team fell to visiting Utica 5-2 in both teams' UCHC opener at Alpha Ice Complex.
 
RECORDS: Chatham falls to 1-2-0, 0-1-0 UCHC while the Pioneers move to 3-2-0, 1-0-0 UCHC. The Cougars and Pioneers square off tomorrow, Nov. 11, with puck drop at 2:30 pm.
 
SCORING SUMMARY: First-year defender Allison Stathakis (Northville, Mich./Culver Academy) scored the contest's first goal off assists from first-year forward Madison Black (Wexford, Pa./Pens Elite) and senior defender Kasandra Petersen (Faribault, Minn./Minnesota Blades).
 
Utica would go on to tally two goals in the first as the Cougars trailed 2-1 after one.
 
Black enjoyed a power play goal at 14:32 in the second for the equalizer, thanks to feeds from senior forward Marissa Janiga (East Aurora, N.Y./Buffalo Stars) and junior forward Kirajean Frost (Harvard, Mass./Boston Shamrocks).
 
Unfortunately, the Pioneers went on to score three unanswered goals the rest of the way.
 
FACEOFFS: Senior forward Cassidy Colhoun (Kincardine, Ont./Saugeen-Mailland Lightning) won 19 draws in the circle.
 
GOALTENDING: Senior netminder Sydney Isbell (Thunder Bay, Ont./Thunder Bay Queens) suffered the defeat despite making 41 saves, including 16 stops in the third period alone.

Chatham added two more men's varsity sports beginning play in 2017-2018; ice hockey and lacrosse, as well as men's squash, starting in 2018-19.
