Box Score PITTSBURGH, PA –
Skylar Benjamin scored her sixth goal of the season, but the Chatham University Soccer team fell to Franciscan University 2-1 on Saturday in a thriller. Chatham is now 1-3 on the season, while the Barons improve to 4-2.
Benjamin scored in the 20
th minute off a drop-kick from goalkeeper
Liz Sawyer. Benjamin redirected the kick and found the corner of the net. Franciscan answered just before halftime, when Ashley Ruttencutter found the back of the net on a penalty kick.
The score remained 1-1 until the 72
nd minute, when Hannah Cooke scored off a rebound and gave the Barons a 2-1 lead. Despite a flurry of late attempts, Chatham was unable to connect.
Benjamin led Chatham with three shots, while
Sarah Ellis and
Becca Pell each recorded one. Sawyer made eight saves in goal.
Chatham returns to action on Tuesday, September 17, when they host Salem International University at 5:00pm.
