Waynesburg Races Past Chatham 83-49

Box Score PITTSBURGH, PA – Four Waynesburg University players scored in double figures as the visiting Yellow Jackets defeated Chatham University on Saturday 83-49. Chatham falls to 2-13 overall and 1-7 in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play. Waynesburg improves to 7-8 overall (6-2 PAC).

Rachel McClain (Fy., Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) led the Cougars with 10 points on 4-9 shooting from the floor. She also tallied a team-high three steals. Carly Zelenak (Jr., Mt. Lebanon, PA/Mt. Lebanon) scored nine points while Chelsea Kovalcsik (Fy., Berea, PA/Berea) grabbed a team-high five rebounds.

Both Taylor Ohm (So., Elizabeth, PA/Elizabeth Forward) and Julianne Speeney (Sr., Connellsville, PA/Geibel Catholic) dished out three assists.

For Waynesburg, Gina Rievel scored 14 points. Elaine Hasek netted 13 and Jessi Drayer and Brittany Spencer each scored 12 points.

Waynesburg stared the game strong, jumping out to a 14-2 lead seven minutes into the game. Chatham responded with a 10-4 run, though, to get within six with just under nine minutes to play in the half. Waynesburg then went on an 8-0 spurt of their own to regain a double-digit lead, and took a 39-27 advantage into halftime.

The Yellow Jackets scored 22 of the first 25 points in the second half to take a 61-30 lead with 11:51 remaining, and led by as many as 36 to seal the victory.

Waynesburg shot 37-75 (49.3%) from the floor and out-rebounded Chatham 48-30. Chatham shot 17-53 (32.1%) from the field and held a 13-10 advantage in fast break points.

Chatham will continue PAC play on Wednesday, January 16 when they travel to Thiel College for a 7:00pm tip-off.
