PITTSBURGH, PA – Claire Geraghty (Jr., Pittsburgh, PA/Oakland Catholic) scored on a penalty kick in the 49th minute of play, but the Chatham University soccer team fell to visiting Pitt-Greensburg 4-1 on Saturday. Chatham falls to 0-1-0 on the young season, while UPG improves to 1-0-0.

Sydney McFarland (FY., Frostburg, MD/Northern Garrett) recorded three shots for the Cougars, including two shots on goal, in her first collegiate competition. Sarah Ellis (So., Lawrence, PA/Canon-McMillan) and Becca Pell (So., Elizabeth, PA/Elizabeth Forward) each tallied one shot on goal, in addition to Geraghty's lone shot.

“I was very encouraged by our team's performance today,” said Head Coach Betsy Warren. “I say team because it did not seem like a group of individuals out there. We came together and played like a solid 11. I think we matched up well with Pitt-Greensburg and we are definitely looking forward to the rest of the season by building off today's game.”

For Pitt-Greensburg, Courtney Carroll netted three goals, in the 20th, 52nd, and 85th minutes. Allaina King scored the Bobcats' other goal, which was assisted on by Carroll, in the 74th minute.

Goalkeeper Liz Sawyer (So., Saco, ME/Thornton Academy), who finished the 2011 season ranked ninth in NCAA Division III in saves, recorded 11 in the game.

Chatham returns to action on Wednesday, September 5, when they travel to Westmoreland County Community College for a 4:00pm kickoff.
