PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Chatham Baseball (20-10, 6-8 PAC) was defeated in the second game of their doubleheader against Hiram (10-18, 7-7) on Wednesday night at West Field 5-1 after the game was rescheduled from Tuesday at Hiram due to darkness.
The Terriers jumped in front in the third inning on a run-scoring base hit. They would tack on 3 runs in the sixth on consecutive hits with a triple and a double before an RBI single later in the inning made the score 4-0.
Eddie Rueda drove
Angelo DeLeonardis home in the top of the eighth inning to make it a 3-run ballgame. After Hiram scored an insurance run in the bottom of the inning, The Cougars threatened by loading the bases in the top of the ninth but could not scratch across the runs they would need to even the score.
Devin Fluhmann finished the game 2-3 at the plate with a triple and a walk. Rueda went 2-5 with an RBI and a double.
Nolan Boehm was also 2-5 for Chatham. DeLeonardis went 1-3 with 2 walks, a stolen base and scored a run.
Gianni Cantini took his first loss of the season, pitching 6 innings and surrendering 4 earned runs on 8 hits while punching out a season-high 8 batters.
Cooper Baxter allowed an earned run and struck out 3 in his 2 innings of work on the mound in relief.
Baseball returns to West Field Saturday for an afternoon doubleheader against Geneva, with the first pitch scheduled to be thrown at 3:30 p.m.
