Nico Gibbins, a midfielder, from Thorton, Colorado, has embraced his role on the soccer team. The freshman has started 5 out of 12 games and it's just the start for him. With the combination of academics and competition, the D3 level was the perfect fit for him. Gibbins has played a total of 578 minutes and there is more in store for him with the Cougars.

Why D3:

I chose D3 because I love the community that we have. As a smaller school we build a culture around support and development which allows me to become the best version of myself on and off the field. Being able to support the other sports teams and attend on campus events is what makes D3 so special to me. I also love the fact that everyone is here for the same reason, to gain a great education and compete year after year at the D3 level

What do you enjoy most about D3 athletics:

There are many things that I enjoy about D3. Being able to see the same faces around campus builds a community. Being able to see big plays week in and week out. And being able to see your community cheering you on as you play the sport you love is what I enjoy most about D3. Unlike the massive universities, attending a D3 makes you feel like you have a place at your school. That is what I love about being a D3 athlete.
