Softball Closes Out Spring Trip with Two Losses

CLERMONT, FL - The Chatham softball team's (1-9) Spring Trip came to a close this afternoon as the Cougars had another 0-2 day to finish things off.

This morning, the Cougars kicked off their final day with a match against Roger Williams (1-1) in which they would be defeated 14-1. The Cougars only offensive power would come from freshman Madi Gorney as she opened the game with a homer un to left field. Gorney would be the one and only Cougar to have a run, hit, and RBI during the game.

On the mound for the Cougars was seniors Victoria Murren, Sheaden Berkson, and Kayleen Garcia and freshman Caytlin Redeye. Murren, Berkson and Redeye would each allow three hits while Garcia would allow five. Murren would throw with no errors while Berkson and Garcia would withhold from walking any of their batters. Redeye would make sure to strikeout two of the batters she faced while Garcia would strikeout one.

During the Cougars second, and final, game, they would face off with Susquehanna University (3-5). Despite the Cougars improved offensive power in the game, they would still fall 4-0. Sophomore RIley Jones would lead the Cougars with her two hits followed by  Murren and sophomores Delaney Cole, Josie Underdonk, and Anna Borst who all had one hit each. Gorney would be key member of the offense too as she was walked three times by Susquehanna's pitching team.

As for the Cougars pitching team, Underdonk would take control of the entire game throwing exactly 100 pitches. Underdonk only allowed four runs and struck out three batters during her seven innings on the mound.

The Cougars look ahead to a bit of a break before returning to PA for their first doubleheader game on Tuesday, March 17th in Pittsburgh vs. the La Roche Redhawks. First pitches are set for 3PM and 5PM.
