MEADVILLE, PA - It was the first day of conference play for the Chatham softball team (4-10, 1-1) as they traveled to Meadville to take on the Allegheny Gators (4-8, 1-1).
While the Cougars scored first in game 1 of their doubleheader, that would be the lone run they scored in a 3-1 loss. Freshman
Madi Gorney would step up to the plate in the 3rd inning and double to center field allowing sophomore
Kyla Milne to score. Milne and senior
Victoria Murren would be the only other Cougars to secure hits in the game.Â
On the mound for the Cougars would be Murren who would throw 65 pitches for 4.0 innings and allow seven hits and three runs. She would be responsible for five force outs and seven ground outs. Filling in for the last 2.0 innings would be sophomore
Hannah Uhrinek who threw 22 pitches only allowing three hits and being responsible for one force out and five ground outs.Â
The Cougars fire was lit in game 2 as they were able to battle back and defeat the Gators 5-3 with some last minute runs. Senior
Olivia Harris would get things started in the 2nd inning when she doubled to center field allowing sophomore
Delaney Cole to score. After allowing three runs, the Cougars would hold their one run score until the 6th inning when the bats started swinging. Murren would double to center right field allowing Gorney to earn a run herself. Milne would hit a single up the middle which would allow Harris to earn her run in the game. Gorney would once again encourage Milne to finish home and take the lead as she gave the Gators second baseman a difficult ball to handle. Murren would secure the 5-3 win with a single to left field in which Gorney once again wasted no time running home to give the Cougars their final run of the game.
Taking control of the mound in this game would be sophomore
Josie Underdonk who pitched the entire game throwing 80 pitches. She would only allow five hits and three runs while striking out three batters and being responsible for nine force outs and nine ground outs.Â
The Cougars are back in action tomorrow, Sunday, March 22nd, when they take a short trip to La Roche for 12PM and 2PM first pitches before the rain.
