Angola, IN - On Saturday, Chatham Women's Hockey (1-10-1, 0-4-0 UCHC) faced off against Trine (5-8-2, 1-6-1 NCHA) in game 2 of their weekend series. The Cougars tied 3-3 after a strong late-game push and scoreless overtime frame; there was no shootout.
Two minutes into the game, Trine quickly jumped out to a 1-0 lead. Unfazed, the Cougars quickly responded. 26 seconds after the Thunder opened the scoring, sophomore Klara Miuller scored her 2nd of the season, set up by Isabella Allsopp and Hailey Braaten, to tie the game at one. The Cougars built off the shift in momentum, with Miuller netting her second goal of the game, this time assisted by Hailey Braaten, to put the Cougars up 2-1. Miuller continued her strong play as the period went on. At 13:23, Miuller completed her first career hat trick to put the Cougars up 3-1. Assisting on the third goal were Allsopp and Kylie Shannon. In the dying seconds of the period, the Thunder answered back, and the Cougars entered the intermission with a slim lead, up 3-2.
The second period saw the goal-scoring pace slow. The teams went back and forth early in the frame, but both were unable to gain the upper hand. The Thunder eventually found the back of the net, tying the game 3-3, setting the stage for a pivotal third period.
In the third period, the Thunder scored with five minutes left in the game, putting them up 4-3. The Cougars' resiliency showed as they began to press, looking to force overtime. With the empty net, Liv McTavish found the back of the net to tie the game 4-4. McTavish's 1st goal of the season was assisted by Miuller and Allsopp in a pretty passing play. In the overtime frame, goaltender Samantha Brophy stood tall, making 5 key saves, finishing with 30 on the night, and keeping Trine's offense at bay. Emery Gelinas led the Cougars in chances and shots in the extra frame, but with both teams unable to get the edge, the game finished in a tie.
Three different Cougars recorded multi-point games, with Klara Miuller leading the way with 4 points, 3 goals, and 1 assist. Isabella Allsopp finished with 3 assists, and Hailey Braaten added 2 assists of her own.
