PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Chatham Women's Volleyball (3-0, 0-0 PAC) defeated Carlow (3-5, 0-0 AMCC) for their third consecutive 3-0 (25-18, 25-9, 25-13) victory to begin the 2025 season.
The Celtics got out to a 14-11 lead to begin the first set, but the Cougars were able to win 8 of the next 9 points for a 19-15 advantage. Then, after Carlow took the next three points, three
Paige Watson kills and two
Maren Balint kills contributed to a 6-0 Chatham run to end the set. The Cougars rode that momentum into the second set, taking a 13-1 lead with three consecutive
Vanessa Mleczko aces capping the run. After clinching that set, Chatham secured the straight set victory by jumping to a 6-0 advantage in the third frame and using another 6-point run mid-set with a couple of Watson kills.
Watson would finish the match with 8 kills and a match high 3 blocks.
Becca Gesner also reached 8 kills for the Cougars and blocked 2 Celtic attacks.
Vanessa Mleczko tied a PAC season high with 6 aces from the service line.
Ava Plunkard dished out a match high 16 assists, and
Sierra Ricci paced Chatham defensively with 21 digs.
The Cougars are back in action on Thursday with a 7 p.m. match against John Carroll at the Athletic and Fitness Center.
