PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Chatham Women's Volleyball (3-1, 0-0 PAC) dropped a match for the first time this season on Thursday night at the Athletic and Fitness Center to John Carroll (5-4, 0-0 NCAC) by a 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-13) scoreline.
The Cougars cut the early Blue Streak lead to 6-5 before John Carroll ripped off 6 consecutive points for a 12-5 lead. They would control the rest of the set to grab the advantage in the match. Chatham was hot to begin set two, leading 4-0 and 8-3 thanks to two
Vanessa Mleczko service aces until the Blue Streaks went on a 7-0 run to lead 10-8. The Cougars kept the set close, with a
Paige Watson kill cutting the John Carroll advantage to 16-15 before the Blue Streaks pulled off another 6-0 run to take the set. In the third set, Chatham hung around early and trailed 10-7, but John Carroll held off the Cougars by winning 8 of the final 10 points to sweep the match.
For the Blue Streaks, Natalie Glowe recorded a match high 10 kills with 2 blocks. Kallan Hrics chalked up a match high 6 blocks, and Olivia Mogyordy had 21 digs. John Carroll held an 11-1 advantage in blocks.
Maren Balint tallied a team high 8 kills for Chatham.
Vanessa Mleczko had the Cougars' only 2 aces.
Ava Plunkard recorded a double double with 11 assists and 10 digs, and
Sierra Ricci finished the match with 21 digs.
Chatham plays in another tri-match on Saturday at the Athletic and Fitness Center, taking on La Roche at 12 p.m. and Lycoming at 4 p.m.
