Men's Lacrosse Drops Game at Grove City

GROVE CITY, Pa. - On Wednesday, the Cougars (6-5, 1-1 PAC) continued their conference schedule with a trip to face off with the preseason PAC favorite Grove City Wolverines (7-6, 4-0 PAC). The Cougars fell behind early and were unable to rebound, losing by a final score of 17-5.

The Cougars scored the first goal of the game when Thomas Whittaker scored on the assist from Tanner Marsh. The Wolverines would then proceed to score the final six goals of the first quarter leading 6-1 after the first 15 minutes. In the second quarter it was the Cougars striking first again, this time it was Liam Rooney scoring back to back goals. He was assisted by Tanner Marsh on the first and Jacob Lubawy had the assist on the second goal. The Wolverines added a goal before the end of the half and took a 7-3 lead as the teams cleared the field at halftime. The Wolverines scored the first goal of the third quarter, extending their lead to five. That was followed by the Cougars chipping away with Jacob Lubawy scoring an unassisted goal. The Wolverines scored the next five goals growing a 13-4 lead. Their scoring run ended when Whittaker scored assisted by Rooney. That ended the scoring in the third quarter. The Wolverines held a 13-5 lead heading into the final quarter and scored four unanswered goals. That made the final score 17-4.

The Cougars were led by Rooney who had 2 goals and 1 assist for a total of 3 points. Marsh had 2 assists and Whittaker had 2 goals as well. Cody Randal led the Cougars with 5 ground balls. Gavin Loshnowsky and Jesse Corser-James led the team with 2 caused turnovers each. Zen Smith and Brett Zaruba split the time in net with Smith making the start. They combined for 10 saves and a 37% save rate. The Cougars converted on 16 of 22 clear attempts and won 6 of 24 face offs. 

The Cougars will be back in action on April 5th, when they travel to New Wilmington, Pa. for a 1 PM start at Westminster.
