Randal Breaks Ground Ball Record as Cougars Win 23-2

GREENVILLE, Pa. - On Wednesday, the Cougars (11-5, 5-1 PAC) took on the Thiel Tomcats (1-12, 0-5 PAC) in a midweek PAC matchup. The Cougars took the field and started scoring immediately, never allowing the end result to be in question as they won 23-2.

The Cougars came out scorching hot in this game scoring four goals in the first two minutes of the game. They were all scored between 13:42 and 13:25, a 17 second period where the Cougars found the back of the net four times. The scoring did not end there as they scored 15 goals in the first quarter alone. In the second quarter, the scoring slowed as they only added five more goals taking a 20-0 lead into halftime. In the second half the Cougars did not do much in the scoring department scoring one goal in the third quarter and two in the fourth. They would allow the Tomcats to score a goal in each of the final quarters winning 23-2.

The Cougars were led offensively by Tanner Marsh who had three goals and four assists. Other Cougars with a hat trick were Jacob Lubawy, Broden Zumbano and Paul Freyre. Thomas Whitaker had two goals and three assists and Ethan Rinker had a pair of goals and a pair of assists. Cody Randal had a team high 19 ground balls. Not only did that lead the team but it broke the Cougars single game ground ball record. He won 25 of his 30 face offs as well. Whitaker led the way with three caused turnovers for the Cougars. The Cougars once again deployed their full trio of goalies as Zen Smith, Brett Zaruba and Mario Pusateri all spent time in the net. Smith got the start, Zaruba had the middle of the game and Pusateri closed it out. The three combined for five saves and a 71.4% save rate. The Cougars completed 17 of their 18 clear attempts while only allowing the Tomcats to complete 14 of 27. The Cougars also won 25 of 30 face offs, all taken by Randal.

The Cougars will be back in action on Wednesday April 23rd, when they host Franciscan for the final regular season home game. The game will start at 4 PM.
