PITTSBURGH, Pa. - On Saturday, the Cougars (4-3) returned home for their first game after spring break when they hosted the McDaniel Green Terror (2-4). The Cougars started out front and led most of the game but late goals from the Green Terror helped give the Cougars a 7-6 loss.
The Cougars scored the first game and although the Green Terror tied the game at one the Cougars were in control of the game for the first three quarters of play. The Cougars led 3-2 after the first quarter and 5-3 at halftime. Neither team could score in the third quarter despite quality opportunities for both teams. The Cougars broke the stalemate two minutes into the final quarter. That would give the Cougars a 6-3 lead. The Green Terror then scored the final four goals of the game and won by a final score of 7-6.
Ethan Rinker led the Cougars, scoring two goals and adding one assist. Rinker,
Devin Traister,
Ethan Joshi and
Ryan Buchanan all had four ground balls to lead the team and Rinker led the Cougars in caused turnovers with three.
Zen Smith led the Cougars with seven saves and
Brett Zaruba added six. The Cougars converted on 17 of their 22 clear attempts and gained control on 12 of the 17 faceoffs.Â
The Cougars will be back in action on Saturday March 15th at 12 PM when they travel to Chestertown, Md. to play Washington.
