CLEARWATER, Fla. - On Tuesday, the Cougars (0-1) made their season debut after having what was supposed to be their first game of the season postponed due to weather. The Cougars fell behind to the Bridgewater Eagles (4-1) early in the game and despite tying the game in the third quarter fell short in the end and lost 7-6.
The Eagles jumped out to a 3-1 lead with five minutes remaining in the first quarter. Despite the early hole, the Cougars clawed back and had tied the game at the end of the first quarter. The Cougars were unable carry the momentum into the second quarter where they once again fell behind by a pair of goals and trailed 5-3 as the teams headed to halftime. The Cougars came out of the half re-energized, tying the game at five only three minutes into the third quarter. The Eagles answered back however, scoring two goals to take a 7-5 lead into the final quarter. The Cougars scored with three minutes left in the game ending with a 7-6 loss.
The Cougars were led offensively by
Tessa Hueber who scored four of the six Cougar goals.
Erin Goodwin had the only assist for the Cougars and added a goal to end the day with two points.
Meghan Cuza-Berry led the team with seven ground balls. The Cougars had two players with a pair of turnovers;
Sam Beall-Dennell and
Avery Redd. The Cougars converted on 15 of 21 clears and were outdrawn 9-8. Chatham converted on three of their six free position shots.
The Cougars will be back in action on Thursday March 6th when they play John Carroll in Clearwater, Fla.
