Baseball Splits Twin Bill with Bobcats

MUNHALL, PA – Chatham Baseball (7-8, 0-0 PAC) fell in the first game of their doubleheader 4-2 on Saturday but came back to win the second game 9-5 against Pitt Greensburg (3-9, 0-0 AMCC).

The Cougars took the lead 1-0 in game one on a first inning single from Tyler Cote that plated Angelo DeLeonardis. The Chatham offense would fail to generate another run until the seventh and final inning, when DeLeornardis singled in Cote. The Cougars allowed a run in the fourth and 3 in fifth and took the 2-run loss.

DeLeonardis finished game one 2-4 at the plate with a run scored and an RBI. Cote was 2-3, scored a run and had an RBI. Cason Bennett pitched 2 innings and allowed no runs on a hit and a walk. Conner Burkey went the distance on the mound for the Bobcats and picked up the win.

In game two, Chatham trailed 1-0 in the first inning but came back to tie the game in the bottom half on a Peter Tadic RBI groundout. Then in the third, Devin Fluhmann scored on a balk and a Caleb Jones RBI single gave the Cougars a 3-1 lead. A 4-run fourth for Pitt Greensburg gave the visitors a 5-3 advantage, but that would be short-lived as Chatham responded with 5 runs of their own in the bottom half. DeLeonardis, Eddie Rueda and Tadic all had RBI singles before Tadic scored on an error and Tommy Schubert brought in Caleb Jones with a base hit. Cote capped the Cougar scoring with an RBI single in the sixth to give them the 4-run victory.

Peter Tadic was 2-5 at the plate in game two with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored. Caleb Jones went 2-5 with an RBI and scored a run. Devin Fluhmann was 3-5 with a double and scored 3 runs from the leadoff spot. Carter Beneigh earned the win by allowing an earned run on 3 hits in 4 innings pitched. Ethan Botkin tossed 1 1/3 scoreless innings in relief and did not allow a baserunner.

Chatham will travel to La Roche on Thursday evening for a 6 p.m. matchup against the RedHawks.
