WBB Displays Offensive Prowess in Victory over Geneva

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – Chatham Women's Basketball (18-5, 16-3 PAC) rolled to a sixth straight win by a 101-48 margin over Geneva (10-13, 7-11) on Saturday afternoon.

Ashlie Louden was the Cougars' leading scorer, netting 25 points on 7-9 shooting with 7 steals. Charjae Brock put 17 points, 6 steals and a game high 4 assists on the stat sheet, shooting 6-10 from the field. Hannah Chenault scored 13 points for Chatham, had 5 steals, grabbed 6 boards and assisted on 3 Cougar baskets. Alyssa Laukus was one of a quartet of Cougars to score 9 points in this one, also grabbing 5 rebounds and shooting 3-4 from the field. Madison Nereu also scored 9 points and collected 5 rebounds. Julia Calvin's 9 points all came from three-pointers and she pulled down 6 rebounds. Leah Harkenrider put 9 points on the board for Chatham as well. Her two made free throws with 5:14 remaining in the game were the 999th and 1000th points of her career.

Geneva took a 6-5 lead early in the game, which would be short-lived because the Cougars went on an ensuing 22-0 run that included 11 points from Louden to take a 27-6 lead. Chatham would finish the quarter with 34 points and a 21-point lead. The Cougars displayed their defense in the second quarter, allowing just 5 points in the frame. They began the quarter on a 12-3 run, and a Nereu layup with a minute left in the half gave Chatham more points than Geneva would score the rest of the way.

The Cougars were not satisfied, however, opening up the third quarter on a 21-4 run to push their lead to 72-22. A Brock jumper made the score 79-27, and Laukus made a layup as the quarter expired to give Chatham an 87-33 advantage heading into the final frame. The Cougars would stretch their lead to as much as 55 points on two Harkenrider free throws in the fourth quarter. They eclipsed the 100-point threshold on a Brielle Fitzpatrick free throw with two-and-a-half minutes to play.

Chatham would finish the game with a shooting percentage of 53.2 percent and 41.7 percent accuracy from three-point range. The Cougars held the Golden Tornadoes to 26.5 percent from the field and 10.5 percent from beyond the arc, causing 32 Geneva turnovers.

Emily Garvin scored 13 points for the Golden Tornadoes while pulling down 7 rebounds and recording 5 steals. Mackenzie Barricklow had 7 rebounds, 6 points, and 2 blocked shots for Geneva. Alexandra Cozzens also scored 6 points and blocked 2 shots while assisting on 2 Golden Tornado baskets.

Chatham has one regular season game remaining, a 12 p.m. affair with Westminster at the Athletic and Fitness Center on Saturday, Feb. 22.
