Women's Basketball Trounces Titans on Senior Day

PITTSBURGH – Chatham Women's Basketball (19-5, 17-3 PAC) earned their seventh consecutive victory and 14th win in 15 games by defeating Westminster (4-21, 4-16) 89-50 on senior day at the Athletic and Fitness Center.

Charjae Brock was the game's leading scorer, recording 16 points along with a game high 5 assists and 4 steals for the Cougars. Alyssa Laukus recorded a double-double with 14 points and a game high 10 rebounds for Chatham and blocked 2 Titan shots. Ashlie Louden had 11 points and a game high 5 steals for the Cougars. Acetta Farrait shot 4-6 from the field, including 2-3 from three-point range, to tally 10 points for Chatham, who had a 19-2 edge in steals.

The teams traded baskets early, resulting in a 7-7 tie five minutes into the game. The Cougars proceeded to go on an 8-0 run to take a 15-7 lead and made a couple of free throws to gain a 17-11 advantage heading into the second quarter. Chatham rolled from that point forward, beginning the quarter on a 14-2 run capped by a Brock layup with four minutes remaining in the half. The Cougars would keep their foot on the gas pedal, and four points at the end of the half by Brielle Fitzpatrick gave them a 43-20 cushion at the break.

Louden opened up the third quarter with a three-point basket, but Westminster countered with a 7-0 run to cut their deficit to 19 points. That was as closes as they would be for the rest of the game, and Chatham used a 7-0 run in the late stages of the frame to increase their advantage to 62-33 on a Leah Harkenrider layup. Talia Prosper canned a shot from distance early in the fourth to put the Cougars up by 30. Farrait netted 8 Chatham points in just over a minute, and a Zeli Rodriguez three-pointer gave Chatham an 85-45 lead before their eventual 39-point victory.

Maddie Syka was the lone Titan to score in double figures with 10 points on 5-13 shooting and 3 assists. Katie Maryo scored 9 points for Westminster, and Emily Hess recorded 8 points and 8 rebounds. Emma Morris had the Titans' only two takeaways.

The Cougars will host 6th-seeded Bethany in a PAC tournament quarterfinal matchup for their next game on Tuesday with tip-off scheduled for 7 p.m.
