BETHANY, W.V. – Chatham Women's Basketball (17-5, 15-3) earned its fifth straight win with a dominating fashion with a 84-51 road victory over the Bethany Bison (12-10, 9-8).
Hannah Chenault led the way with 21 points on 7-14 shooting, including 5-10 from deep, with six rebounds, three steals and two assists.
Ashlie Louden netted 16 points on 6-14 shooting, including 4-8 from long range. Charaje Brock was nearly perfect with a 7-8 day from the field to go along with six steals, five rebounds and two assists.
Madison Nereu finished with 13 points and five rebounds, while
Alyssa Laukus nearly completed a double-double with 12 points and eight rebounds.
The two teams started with a neck and neck opening frame before the Bison ended the quarter with a 6-0 run that gave them a 21-14 lead. Chatham would take a 25-24 lead after a 10-0 run in the second quarter that featured threes from Louden and Chenault. The Cougars went into the halftime break leading 29-26.
Chatham scored the first 20 points of the third quarter to take complete control of the game. The run featured two three-pointers from Chenault and eight points, including six straight, from Brock. The Cougars offense continued to power on in the third quarter, leading by as many as 26 points. Chatham's largest lead of the day came in the fourth quarter at 33 points, which proved to be the final difference.
The Cougars shot an efficient 52.3% (34-65) from the field and connected on 10 threes. They held the hosts to 36.4% (20-55) from the field and just 25% (6-24) from beyond the arc. The Bison narrowly won the rebound battle 35-34, but Bethany committed 20 turnovers to Chatham's 10.
Chatham Women's Basketball will be back in action on Saturday at Geneva.
