LATROBE, Pa. - On Tuesday, Baseball drove down route 30 to take on the Saint Vincent Bearcats. The Cougars earned their first sweep of the season, defeating the Bearcats 13-1 in game one, and 11-6 in game two.
In game one, the Cougars wasted no time getting on the board. After a balk that got the scoring started, Sophomore
Peter Tadic hit his third homerun of the season that brought around Sophomore
Caleb Jones. The next inning, Senior
Benny Dottle hit a two-run single to give Chatham a 5-0 lead after two innings of play. Freshman
Eli Kelley hit his first collegiate homerun in the third to bring two more runs across. The Bearcats only run came in the fifth off of a RBI triple from Billy Perroz. The Cougars put the mercy rule into effect in the eighth when
Eli Kelley singled to score
Frankie DeLuca and
Peter Tadic. They scored the thirteenth run off of a wild pitch to lead the Bearcats 13-1 going into the bottom of the eighth. Saint Vincent was unable to score three runs to keep the game going for another inning as the Cougars won 13-1.
Junior
Carter Beneigh received the start and went four scoreless innings. Beneigh scattered three hits, five walks, and had two strikeouts despite throwing on short rest. Junior
Kole Mayle received his first win of the 2024 season and Junior
David McSorley threw a scoreless eighth inning.
The Cougars collected 13 hits in the contest. Four Cougars recieved multiple hits.

Caleb Jones (2-4, 2 R).
In game two, both teams scored in the first inning. Chatham scored two runs on a Sophomore
Caleb Jones double and a
Peter Tadic sac fly. Saint Vincent took advantage of some Chatham defensive miscues and answered with five in the bottom half of the first. Despite the three-error inning for the Cougars, Junior
Dawson Morrow held his own and managed to get thru five innings of work. The Cougars delivered two more runs to even things up at five in the third inning. The tie wouldn't last long, as the Bearcats answered with their final run of the game in the third. Chatham had a strong answer next inning as they put up a five spot. Senior
Jake Bredl found the right center gap,
Caleb Jones hit against the shift for a double, and Senior
Frankie DeLuca reached on a fielder's choice to make the score 10-6. Both teams went fairly quiet until the Cougars scored their final run of the game in the eighth. Sophomore
Angelo DeLeonardis led the inning off with a double.
Benny Dottle sacrificed DeLeonardis to third, and Bredl found a hole thru the left side of the infield to score DeLeonardis.
Morrow received win #1 on the season, gave up six hits, six runs (one earned), two walks, and two strikeouts. Freshman
Gianni Cantini received his first career save as he went four scoreless innings to close out the game. Cantini collected two strikeouts on just three hits and two walks over those four innings.
The Cougars collected 13 more hits in game two. Again, four Cougars had multiple hits. DeLeonardis (2-4, 3 R), Dottle (3-4, 2 R), Bredl (2-5, 2 R, 2 RBI's), and Jones (3-5, 2 R, 3 RBI's).
Baseball tallied their first two wins in PAC play for the 2024 season. They move to 9-13 (2-5) on the year.
Next up for the Cougars: Tomorrow @ La Roche University. The game will be a 4 PM start.
