OBERLIN, Oh. - Softball continued play Sunday after two PAC games yesterday. Today, they traveled to Oberlin, Ohio to take on the Oberlin Yeowomen. They split in the doubleheader, winning game one 4-3 and losing game two 4-0.
In game one, Grad
Kyley Fijalkowski led the game off with a double to left center. She then scored on a wild pitch a batter later. In the third, it was Fijalkowski again leading off the inning with a hit, this time a single. Sophomore
Chelsea Stabile came up a few batters later and singled down the left field line to score Fijalkowski once more. Sophomore
Kayleen Garcia reached on a fielder's choice that brought home another Chatham run as they led 3-0 after three innings of play. The Cougars final run of the game came in the fifth. Chatham again had a leadoff hit, this time from Sophomore
Irene Martin. Freshman
Avery Dye returned from injury in a strong way when a single to left field scored Martin. Oberlin responded in the fifth with their three runs of the contest. Neither team would score in the final two innings as the game ended 4-3 in favor of Chatham.
Sophomore
Cailyn Lucas picked up her first win in the circle of the 2024 season. Lucas went five innings, scattered five hits, and gave up three runs. Sophomore
Chelsea Stabile also threw a scoreless inning, giving up two hits and collected a strikeout. Sophomore
Victoria Murren picked up a rare save and the first of her collegiate career. Fijalkowski and Dye had two hits apiece to lead the Cougars.
In game two, this time it was Murren that got the start on the mound. Things were scoreless thru four innings until the Yeowomen got on the board with one run to lead 1-0 after five. Oberlin added three more insurance runs in the sixth to extend their lead 4-0. Chatham was unable to tie the game or take the lead in the last inning as the final was 4-0 Oberlin.
Murren went five innings, gave up seven hits and only one run. The Cougars had three hits in the contest, two of them from Junior
Isabelle Griswold.
With the split, Chatham moves to 5-19 (1-7) overall. They conclude a busy weekend and will prepare for more non-conference play on Thursday as they will travel to Mount Aloysius for a doubleheader. Games are expected to start at 3 & 5 PM.
