STEUBENVILLE, Ohio - Chatham Men's Lacrosse (9-7, 4-3) used a 12-goal second quarter to capture a 21-14 win over the Franciscan Barons (9-7, 2-5) on Saturday at Trinity Health Field.
Sophomore
Thomas Whitaker tied the program record of nine points in a single game with six goals and three assists. Freshman
Brady Rigdon totaled seven points on three goals and four assists. Sophomore
Jacob Lubawy and first year
Tanner Marsh each racked up six points, with four goals from Marsh and two from Lubawy. Junior
Thomas Curtin had seven ground balls and three caused turnovers, while sophomore
Cody Randal was 17-20 on faceoffs with nine ground balls.
The Barons got the first goal of the game, but the Cougars took a 2-1 lead thanks to two goals from Whitaker, including a man-up goal. Franciscan scored the next three to go up 4-2, but another score from Whitaker and one from Rigdon tied the game at four heading into the second quarter.
Chatham took over the game with five straight goals to start the second period to take a 9-4 lead. Franciscan scored two quick goals to cut it to 9-6, but the Cougars followed with seven unanswered goals to pick up a double-digit lead before halftime. Marsh and freshman
Devin Traister scored in the third quarter, but the Barons outscored the Cougars 5-2. Chatham held their commanding lead in the fourth as each team put up three goals.
Shots were 63-41 in favor of the Cougars. Chatham were 2-3 on man-up opportunities, while Franciscan was 0-1. The Cougars dominated on faceoffs 27-9.
Men's Lacrosse returns to action Wednesday evening when they host the Thiel Tomcats at UPMC Graham Field.
