Men's Lacrosse Ties Program Goals and Points Record Against Thiel

PITTSBURGH - Chatham Men's Lacrosse (9-7, 4-3) tied the program team records for goals and points in a game on their way to a 26-4 win over the Thiel Tomcats (3-10, 0-7) on Wednesday at UPMC Graham Field.

Freshmen Tanner Marsh and Tyler Laughlin led the offense with seven points each, with Marsh tallying on five goals and two assists and Laughlin recording four goals and three assists. First year Broden Zumbano had five goals, while freshman Paul Freyre racked up three goals and two assists. Sophomore Cody Randal netted his first career goal and was 15-16 on faceoffs with eight ground balls.

The Cougars took command right off the bat, with three goals in the first 1:38, and never looked back. Thiel scored their first goal of the day to make it 3-1, but nine unanswered goals, including four from Marsh, capped off the first quarter for Chatham.

The Tomcats got the first goal of the low-scoring second quarter, which ended with a 16-2 Chatham lead after goals from Zumbano, Freyre, Laughlin and sophomore Alex Stanuikynas. The Cougars held the Tomcats to just one goal again and scored nine, with three from Laughlin.

Zumbano scored Chatham's only goal of the fourth quarter 1:39 into the period to tie the program record of 26 goals in a game.

Shots on goal were 49-16 in favor of the Cougars and Chatham were 14-15 on clears. The Purple and Grey also dominated the faceoff circle 31-3.

Men's Lacrosse will wrap up the regular season in Latrobe on Saturday when they visit the Saint Vincent Bearcats.
