PITTSBURGH - Chatham Women's Lacrosse (6-6. 3-2) cruised to a 21-1 win over the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets (1-12, 0-5) on Monday night at UPMC Graham Field. The win was the largest of the year for the Cougars and their fourth game of 18+ goals this season.
The Chatham offense was led by senior
Felicia Hutter, who tallied a career-high eight points on five goals and three assists. Hutter leads the Cougars this season and ranks seventh in the conference with 38 goals. Junior
Erin Goodwin totaled a season-high six points on four goals and two assists. Junior
Sam Beall-Dennell scored four goals and added four draw controls, three caused turnovers and three ground balls. Freshman
Sarah Holt scored two goals, including the first of her career, and senior
Kaylynn Savoy also netted her first career goal. Junior
Josie Barton recorded an assist for her first career point to go along with a game-high seven ground balls.
The Yellow Jackets scored the first goal of the game 34 seconds in, but that's all they would score as the Cougars took over in a hurry. Goodwin tied the game just over a minute later, then the Cougars scored five times in a four-minute span, including three from Beall-Dennell, to take a 6-1 lead. Beall-Dennell added another later in the quarter with an assist from Goodwin.
Chatham found the net five times in the second quarter, with two scores from Hutter and the first of Holt's career. Freshman goalie
Meghan Cuza-Berry made four saves in the quarter, including twice on free-position shots.
Hutter recorded four of her eight points in the third quarter on two goals and two assists. Goodwin scored twice more and Holt netted her second of the game. In the final frame, first year
Natalie Ondo contributed to both goals of the period after scoring and assisting Savoy's first career goal.
Chatham dominated in shots 38-8. The Cougars were 10-13 on clears and held the Yellow Jackets to 3-19. Neither team scored from the free position, going a combined 0-7.
Women's Lacrosse plays again Wednesday evening at 5 p.m. against the Allegheny Gators in Meadville.
