DAVENPORT, Fl. - The Cougars played a night game under the lights Thursday evening. Baseball came out victorious over the Thomas College Terriers by the score of 5-3.
Junior
Dawson Morrow got the start on the mound to start the night for the Cougars. The Terriers managed to score a run in the bottom of the first, but then Morrow settled in for the next three innings. In the top of the third, Senior
Jake Bredl hit his first homerun of the season on a full count heater at the top of the zone. In the same inning, Freshman
Eli Kelley hit a line drive single to left that scored Sophomore
Peter Tadic giving the Cougars the lead 2-1. Senior
Benny Dottle hit a sac fly in the following inning to extend the lead to 3-1. Morrow dealt with some command issues in the fifth, and the Terriers were able to scratch another run across to cut into their deficit. Thomas College tied the game up in the seventh thanks to a single. In the top of the ninth, Senior
Frankie DeLuca led the inning off with a walk, stole second, and then Dottle drew a walk to make it first and second with nobody out. Cougars then played small ball as Bredl, who homered earlier, laid down a sac bunt to move the runners into scoring position and one out. That brought up 3-hitter
Peter Tadic who hit a line drive to left to score DeLuca and then
Caleb Jones hit an infield single that scored Dottle. The Cougars led 5-3 going into the bottom of the ninth as the Cougars Closer
Tyler Cote came into pitch. The Terriers singled to start, then Cote managed to get the next three outs unscathed to collect the save which is his second of the season.
Peter Tadic was 2-5 with an RBI and run scored,
Jake Bredl was 1-3 with a HR, and
Angelo DeLeonardis was 2-5. Freshman
