MUNHALL, Pa. - Softball had a quick turnaround as they hosted the Geneva Golden Tornadoes to continue PAC play. They split with Geneva, winning game one 8-1 and losing game two 14-6.
In game one, it was the pitching of Sophomore
Victoria Murren that led the Cougars to victory. Geneva scored their lone run in the opening frame and then Murren settled in and kept the Golden Tornadoes scoreless the remainder of the game. In the second, Murren helped herself and got the Cougars on the board with a single to right center that scored Junior
Isabelle Griswold. Sophomore
Ciera Jimenez would single and score Murren in the same inning. The next batter Grad
Kyley Fijalkowski followed up Jimenez with a two-run double to left field to give the Cougars a 4-1 lead after two innings. In the third, Murren got herself two more insurance runs when she hit another single to center and Jimenez had an RBI bunt single. Things stayed put until the sixth when Griswold singled to center and brought around Sophomore
Irene Martin, who was the eighth and final run for the Cougars.
Murren went the distance, scattered three hits, a run, three walks, and 13 strikeouts. Those strikeouts were enough to hit the 200 career strikeout mark, which sits first in program history.
Isabelle Griswold was a perfect 4-4 at the plate, Murren was 2-3 with three RBI's, Sophomore
Hannah Chenault was 2-4, and
Ciera Jimenez was 2-3 with two RBI's in game one.
In game two, the Cougars got the scoring going first. Griswold stayed hot at the plate with a RBI double to right field. Then in the second, Geneva answered with six runs to take a 6-1 lead. The Cougars had a strong answer though, as they got four of those runs back in the bottom half of the second. RBI hits from Freshman
Sofia Catanzaro, Sophomore
Chelsea Stabile,
Irene Martin, and another from Griswold to cut the Golden Tornado lead to 6-5. Geneva's two runs apiece in the fourth and fifth innings and a four run seventh were all they needed as they defeated the Cougars 14-6 in game two.
The Cougars outhit the Golden Tornadoes 14-12. Griswold had a stellar day as she went 3-4 with two RBI's in game two. Martin, Chenault, Murren, and Catanzaro chipped in two hits apiece to pace Chatham.
