GREENSBURG, Pa. - Baseball traveled down route 30 Wednesday afternoon to take on the Pitt-Greensburg Bobcats. They lost in a highly contested battle by the score of 15-13.
The Bobcats struck first in the bottom half of the opening inning with two runs. The Cougars responded though, as in the top of the second, they exploded for nine runs. The scoring got started when Junior
Tyler Cote hit a three-run homer to left. Later that inning, Sophomore
Peter Tadic hit an RBI double and the next batter Sophomore
Caleb Jones followed him up with an RBI double of his own. Next up to bat was Sophomore
Angelo DeLeonardis as he kept the rally going with a single that scored Jones. Sophomore
Tommy Schubert would then hit a double that scored DeLeonardis. In the third, Freshman
Nolan Boehm hit his first collegiate homerun over the right field fence. The Bobcats answered with two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth to cut the Cougar lead to 10-5. The Cougars got their last three runs of the game in the seventh, when Senior
Jake Bredl hit a three-run homer the other way to make it 13-6. The Bobcats had a massive inning of their own which was desperately needed in the seventh. James Domer hit one of his three-run homeruns in the game, and two RBI doubles from the Bobcats to make it 13-12. In the bottom of the eighth, James Domer proceeded to hit another three-run blast to give the Bobcats their first lead of the game by the score of 15-13. Domer did it all for the Bobcats, as he came on in relief to receive the save which made the final 15-13.
The Cougars outhit the Bobcats 17-15, but it wasn't enough.
Nolan Boehm received the loss but was 2-3 with a HR and two walks,
Jake Bredl was 3-6 with five RBI's, and
Angelo DeLeonardis was 4-4 with two runs scored. Â
The Cougars will continue play with a rubber match vs the Bobcats on their home turf tomorrow night at West Field. The game is slated for a 7:30 start.Â
