Boyer Eclipses 1,000 Career Points as Cougars Beat Titans

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - February 3, 2024 - Chatham Men's Basketball (14-8, 12-5) earned its fourth straight victory with a 72-61 road win over the Westminster Titans (10-11, 8-9) on Saturday at the Buzz Ridl Gymnasium. With a three-pointer late in the second half, senior guard Simon Boyer became the fifth player in program history to eclipse 1,000 career points, joining Marcos Cintron (2019-23), Isaiah Brown (2015-19), Alex Schoppen (2015-19) and Will Sandherr (2016-20).

Boyer scored 16 points on 5-11 shooting and added seven rebounds and four assists. Sophomore guard Diaun Pinkett led the game with 17 points and grabbed 11 boards for his eighth double-double of the season. Pinkett also led the game with five assists. Senior forward Luca Robinson shot 4-9 and went 5-5 from the line to finish with 13 points. Junior guard Blaine Gartley netted 10 points on 5-8 shooting and pulled down six rebounds.

The Titans went up 5-2 early on, but the Cougars responded with a 10-4 run with six points from Robinson and four from Boyer. Westminster would answer with a 10-4 run of their own to regain their three-point lead, but Chatham again had a response, with a 16-4 run to close the half that was kick-started by five straight points from Pinkett. An and-one from Robinson 10 seconds into the second half got the offense started, then a 10-2 run gave the Cougars their largest lead of the day at 16 points. The Titans came back with a 13-5 stretch to cut the lead to eight with 8:50 left and then shortened that to five points just three minutes later, but the Cougars followed that up with nine straight points to grow the lead back to 14, which proved to be too much to overcome.

Chatham shot 44.6% (25-56) from the field and 81.8% (18-22) from the free-throw line while holding Westminster to 32.8% (21-64) from the field and 16.7% (3-18) from three-point range. Chatham dominated on the boards, winning 50-31, which set a new program-best rebound margin (+19), surpassing the mark they set last week against Bethany.

Men's Basketball returns to action Wednesday as they host the Allegheny Gators.
