PITTSBURGH, Pa. - February 7, 2024 - Chatham Men's Basketball (15-8, 13-5) earned its fifth-straight win with an 80-58 victory over the Allegheny Gators (5-17, 3-14) on Wednesday at the Athletics and Fitness Center. The Cougars led nearly the whole way thanks to an impressive first half offensively.
Junior
Blaine Gartley paced all scores with 17 points on 8-12 shooting and added eight rebounds and three steals. Sophomore
Diaun Pinkett stuffed the statsheet with 13 points on 4-6 shooting, eight rebounds, five assists, four steals and a block. Senior
Simon Boyer was the only other Cougar in double-figures, finishing with 10 points and four boards.
Chatham opened the game on a 15-6 run that was supplemented by senior
Luca Robinson and Gartley, who scored five and four respectively. Allegheny pulled within four at the 7:45 mark thanks to a quick 8-2 run, but the Cougars answered with a 13-4 stretch that ended with five straight from Pinkett. Chatham would go into the break with a 46-33 lead.
A 14-2 run with six from both Boyer and Gartley to start the second half gave the Cougars all they needed to pull away, leading by 25 at the 14-minute mark. Allegheny would not come within 18 the rest of the way, and Chatham led by as many as 26.
The Cougars shot 47.6% (30-63) from the floor and 70% (14-20) from the line, but just 23.1% (6-26) from deep. Chatham dominated on the glass, winning the board battle 43-28, including a 12-3 advantage on the offensive glass. The Cougars held Allegheny to 9.1% (2-22) from beyond the arc, a season low for their opponents.
