NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Chatham Men's Basketball (8-3, 5-1) fell by the score of ?? in game two of the Music City Classic against the Lancaster Bible College Chargers (6-5, 2-1) on Friday.
Diaun Pinkett scored 18 points with five assists, three rebounds and two steals.
Blaine Gartley netted 15 points and added six rebounds, five assists and two steals.
Lovenson Xavier and
Simon Boyer each scored 14 points, while
Luca Robinson had 11 points on 4-5 shooting.
Xavier scored Chatham's opening five points to provide a 5-2 lead early on. After a 6-2 Lancaster run that gave the Chargers a one-point lead, the Cougars got a layup from Gartley and a three-pointer from Pinkett to regain a 12-8 advantage. Chatham then got a 10-2 run to increase their lead to double-digits. The two teams traded scores for the next eight minutes before Lancaster ended the half on a 12-5 run, which put the Cougar lead at 44-40 at the break.
The Chargers scored the first five points of the second half to take a one-point lead before Robinson went on a tear, scoring eight of Chatham's next 10 points during a 10-4 run. Boyer then connected on a three to make it 57-49 at 14:15. A triple from Pinkett grew the Cougar lead back to double-digits, but the Chargers cut into it quickly with a 12-5 run. Lancaster then cut it to one point with a three-pointer at 6:01 which came part of an 8-3 swing, then took a 77-75 lead at 4:11. After Chatham tied the game at 77, Lancaster went on a 10-4 to go up 87-81 with just over a minute left, a lead the Cougars were unable to overcome.
The Cougars shot 60.4% (29-48) from the floor and 54.2% (13-24), while Lancaster was 50% (35-70) from the field. Chatham outrebounded Lancaster 34-30, but the Cougars turned the ball over 27 times.
