Men's Basketball Takes Down Franciscan

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – Chatham Men's Basketball (9-3, 6-1) secured a 66-51 road win over the Franciscan Barons (8-4, 3-4) at the Finnegan Fieldhouse on Tuesday.

Lovenson Xavier led the game with 19 points on 8-16 shooting with six rebounds, three assists and two steals. Diaun Pinkett tallied 17 points on 8-14 shooting to go along with four rebounds, three steals and two assists. Simon Boyer scored 13 points and grabbed six boards, while Luca Robinson pulled down 10 rebounds and contributed six points, which all came from the free-throw line.

The Barons jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first two minutes, but Xavier scored 8 of the game's next 10 points, including a three-pointer and an and-one, to put Chatham up 8-6. Franciscan regained the lead at 10-8 before a triple from Fulmer changed the lead once more. The Cougars then took over the game with an 18-1 run that spanned nearly eight minutes. The run, which put Chatham up 29-12, featured five more points from Xavier, four from Pinkett and four from Boyer. However, Franciscan answered with a quick 7-0 run that cut the lead to 10 before a three from Drew Vizenor made it 32-19, which is where the score would stand at the halftime break.

Chatham maintained its lead for the first seven minutes of the second half, then used a 14-4 run to pull away with eight minutes left. Pinkett sparked the run with seven points, including a three-pointer, and two steals. The Cougars led by as many as 19 points down the stretch.

Chatham shot 37.1% (23-62) from the field and 40% (8-20) from deep and held Franciscan to 27.7% (18-65) from the field and 23.1% (3-13) from three-point range. The Barons won the rebound battle 49-45, but the Cougars forced 13 turnovers and committed just eight.

Chatham Men's Basketball returns in the new year with a home matchup on Saturday against the Bethany Bison.
