Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Dutchwomen Spoil Corser-James' Historic Night

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Jan. 26, 2024 - Women's Hockey was defeated by Lebanon Valley (5-13-1, 4-10-1). Senior Allie Corser-James recorded an assist for her 100th career point, but an early three-goal deficit proved too much to overcome for the Cougars.

The Dutchwomen were the first to score 42 seconds into the opening period. They followed with two more goals, one being a power-play score. Then, with three minutes left, the Cougars responded with two goals to close the gap. The first was netted by fifth-year Brooke Almond. She was assisted by seniors Allie Corser-James and Ally Nolan. Corser-James' assist was the 100th point of her career, making her the only player in both Chatham men's and women's history to reach that milestone. Afterward, Corser-James scored on a breakaway on a pass from freshman Morgan Black. Entering the second, Chatham trailed 2-3.

Both teams traded scores in the next period. The first came from sophomore Liv McTavish, her second of the year. The second-year forward was assisted by sophomore Chelsea Clark and senior Abi Fuzaylov. Subsequently, the Dutchwomen countered with their fourth goal of the evening with four seconds remaining. Both the score (4-3) and shots on goal (34-25) favored Lebanon Valley heading into the final period.

The visitors tacked on another goal midway through the third. Not long after, freshman Ella Sheffer's shot was redirected by Nolan for her 23rd point of the year. The Dutchwomen answered with another score at the 14:29 mark, extending their lead to 6-4. The Cougars emptied their net to try and tie the game and did score with the extra attacker. Senior Lauren Carmody found the back of the net off assists from Corser-James and Almond, but that would be the last score for Chatham. The Purple and Grey kept their woman-up advantage and had 12 shots to Lebanon Valley's four in the final four minutes of play, but could not tie the game.

Overall, five different Chatham players scored. Corser-James led the team with three points, followed by Nolan's and Almond's two. Corser-James is now tied for the lead in assists (15) and second in points (23) in the United Collegiate Hockey Conference. Both goalies for the Cougars let up three goals, a new team high this season. The shot count favored Chatham 49-41.

Women's Hockey returns to the ice on Saturday at 3 p.m. for game two of the season series.
