Corser-James Lifts Cougars Past Golden Wolves

READING, Pa. - Jan. 20, 2024 - Women's Hockey earned a shootout victory over the Alvernia Golden Wolves (8-6-2, 6-5-2) on a score by senior Allie Corser-James. After dropping the season series against Wilkes, the Cougars bounced back in overtime.

The first period began and ended with the only two scores of the game. 35 seconds into the opening period, fifth-year Brooke Almond netted her seventh goal of the season off an assist from Corser-James. Then, with 10 seconds remaining in the first, Alvernia tied the game. The Golden Wolves had multiple power play opportunities to take the lead in the first, but Chatham held the host to just five shots during the six penalty minutes.

The remainder of regulation saw the Cougars trail in the shot count 16-23. There were a total of 13 penalties called between both teams and multiple missed chances. Chatham had two power plays in the third while Alvernia had three, but neither side could capitalize.

In overtime, Alvernia accounted for all three shots. The tie sustained throughout the extra period and forced a shootout, where Corser-James sealed the game.
