WASHINGTON, Pa. - January 20, 2024 - Chatham Men's Basketball (10-8, 8-5) suffered defeat on the road with a 82-70 loss against the W&J Presidents (4-13, 3-9) at the Salvitti Family Gymnasium on Saturday. Three-point shooting made the difference, as the Cougars went 7-29 (24.1%) from beyond the arc compared to the Presidents' 7-9 (77.8%).
Graduate forward
Elijah Sutton led the team with 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Senior forward
Luca Robinson was the only other Cougar in double-figures at 16 points on 6-11 shooting. Sophomore guard
Diaun Pinkett scored eight points and tallied eight boards.
Following a neck and neck first 10 minutes, the Presidents were able to build a seven-point cushion, but the Cougars would respond with a 9-0 run to regain the lead in a hurry. The two sides traded the lead three more times before a 13-4 W&J run sent them into the break with an eight-point advantage. The Presidents kept the Cougars at a distance for the first 10 minutes of the second half, and took their largest lead of the day at 13 points with 12:19 left, but a 15-5 Chatham run cut it to just three. However, W&J was able to grow that lead back to double-digits down the stretch to pull away with the victory.
Chatham's 35.2% (25-71) field-goal percentage was the team's second-lowest of the season, while W&J's 54.7% (29-53) was their second-highest. The Cougars won the board battle 41-39 and collected 17 offensive rebounds, which resulted in 18 second chance points.
Men's Basketball returns home Wednesday to face off against the Bethany Bison.
