GREENVILLE, Pa. - February 12, 2023 - Chatham Men's Basketball narrowly defeated the hosting Thiel Tomcats 74-72 Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Cougars are now 12-11 overall and 11-7 in the PAC.
Freshman forward
James Thomas recorded a double-double with 14 points and 17 rebounds, setting the program record for rebounds in a game. Thomas also blocked three shots to match his season high. Graduate wing
Nick Bomar led the team with 17 points on 5-6 shooting and three three-pointers. Senior guard
Marcos Cintron almost added a double-double of his own, with 13 points and nine rebounds to go along with five assists.
It was a back and fourth game throughout the first half and the two teams went into the break knotted at 31. In the second half, the Cougars looked like they were going to pull away for good, but the Tomcats narrowed the double-digit lead to just three down the stretch. Chatham used clutch free-throw shooting in the closing minutes to hold on.
Chatham narrowly won the rebounding battle 51-49 and held Thiel to just two three-pointers. The Cougars shot 40% (28-70) from the floor.
Men's Basketball is back in action at home Wednesday evening against Westminster.
