PITTSBURGH, Pa. - February 15, 2023 - Chatham Men's Basketball earned a convining 94-74 home win over the Westminster Titans Wednesday night. The win puts the Cougars at 13-11 on the season and 12-7 in conference play, tying them with the Titans for the four seed in the PAC.
Junior guard
Simon Boyer dropped 20 points to pace the Cougars, scoring 20 or more for the seventh time this season. Senior guard
Brandon Lavernia scored 16 points on 6-7 shooting and was a perfect 4-4 from deep. Graduate wing
Nick Bomar scored seven points and led the team in both rebounds and assists, with seven and four respectively. Sophomore guard
Blaine Gartley tallied five steals to go along with eight points and five rebounds.
The two teams were deadlocked for the opening 10 minutes of the game, but the Cougars jumped out to a 21-11 lead soon after. Westminster brought things back into reach as Chatham led by five at the break. In the second half, the Cougars quickly took back a double-digit lead that hovered around the 10-point mark for roughly 10 minutes. Then, Chatham went on a 23-6 run that blew the game wide open, leading by as many as 28 before the contest ended.
It was a hot night of shooting for the Cougars as they shot 54.3% (38-70) from the field and 46.4% (13-28) from three-point range. Chatham won the rebound battle 39-31 and recorded 17 steals. Westminster made just three triples on the night, going 3-12 (25%).
Men's Basketball is back at home on Saturday to wrap up the regular season with Senior Day before looking towards the conference tournament.
