Men's Basketball Defeats Bethany 88-70

BETHANY, W.V. - November 29, 2023 - Chatham Men's Basketball (4-3, 2-2) secured an 88-70 win on the road against the Bethany Bison (2-6, 1-3) Wednesday at the Hummel Field House. Sophomore Diaun Pinkett and junior Blaine Gartley each recorded double-doubles as the Cougars scored 85+ for the second straight game.

Pinkett notched a career-high 25 points and pulled down 11 rebounds in his second double-double of the season. The McKees Rocks, Pa. native has set a new career high in scoring five times in the last six games. Gartley's first double-double of the season (11 points, 10 boards) came close to a triple-double as the veteran guard added seven assists and notched five steals. Senior Simon Boyer scored 15 points on 5-11 shooting, including 3-6 from three. Junior Isaiah Smith (13 points) and senior Luca Robinson (12 points) each scored in double-figures and combined for six rebounds.

Pinkett scored 12 of the Cougars' first 21 points and Chatham followed that with a 10-2 run to lead 31-21 with 7:22 left in the first half. Three-pointers from Smith and Boyer gave the Cougars a 14-point lead, their largest of the first half. Chatham went into the break up 11 and grew that lead to 17 thanks to six more points from Pinkett in the first five minutes of the second half. The Cougars prevented the Bison from finding any sort of rhythm down the stretch and led by as many as 19 points late in the half.

Chatham ended the day with a shooting percentage of 49.2% (30-61) and a three-point percentage of 44% (11-25). Both teams were considerably careful with the ball as the Cougars won the turnover battle at 14-11. Rebounds also went in favor of the Cougars at a close 38-36. Pinkett was charged with a technical foul in the second half, as were two members of the Bison.

Men's Basketball returns to action Saturday afternoon in Ohio when they take on the Franciscan Barons.
