PITTSBURGH, Pa. - November 18, 2023 - Chatham Women's Basketball (2-2, 1-1) used solid defensive play to defeat the W&J Presidents (3-1, 1-1) on Saturday at the AFC. The Cougars held the Preidents to 22.7% (5-22) from beyond the arc and forced 22 turnovers.
Chatham junior
Ashlie Louden netted 29 points in the win on 9-15 shooting, including 6-11 from three-point range. Louden, last year's PAC leader in three pointers, has 13 triples through the first four games of the season. Sophomore
Alyssa Laukus scored 13 points on 5-6 shooting and had three steals. Sophomore
Hannah Chenault and junior
Aurielle Brunner combined for 23 points, with four threes from Chenault. Junior
Charjae Brock racked up four steals to go along with her five points and two assists.
The Cougar defense stifled the Presidents early on, allowing just 13 points in each of the first two quarters to lead 34-26 at halftime. W&J turned the ball over 14 times in the first half. In the third quarter, Chatham poured on 28 points, including 11 from Louden. The Presidents fought back for 27 in the fourth, but the inability to knock down the deep ball kept them in check.
The Cougars shot 46.4% (26-56) from the field and 48% (12-25) from long range. W&J won the rebounding battle 42-29, but Chatham was +9 in the turnover margin and scored 19 points off turnovers.
Women's Basketball returns to the AFC on Wednesday when they play host to the Geneva Golden Tornadoes.
