PITTSBURGH, Pa. - November 21, 2023 - Chatham Women's Basketball (3-2, 2-1) earned a 92-77 win over Geneva (1-3, 1-2) at the AFC on Tuesday. The Cougars used active defense and efficient shooting to top the Golden Tornadoes.
Sophomore
Hannah Chenault scored 21 points on 4-9 shooting from deep to lead the Cougars. Junior
Aurielle Brunner netted 16 points on 7-8 shooting and contributed eight steals, six rebounds and three assists. Brunner is the early PAC leader in steals with 23 on the season. Junior
Ashlie Louden dropped 18 points and snatched five steals of her own to go along with five assists and four rebounds. Juniors
Charjae Brock and
Zelimar Rodriguez each also had five steals and combined for 21 points and three blocks.
Geneva opened the game on an 11-5 run and led 30-23 early in the second quarter, but Chatham closed the half on a 14-2 run to lead by five going into halftime. It was all Cougars the rest of the way, as 12 third-quarter turnovers by the Golden Tornadoes helped build the lead and a 10-0 run to open the final frame gave Chatham a 19-point lead and put the nail in the coffin.
The Cougars shot 48.5% (32-66) from the field and forced 37 turnovers, which is their most since 2017. Chatham went 21-33 from the free-throw line, including 8-10 from Louden. Geneva won the rebound battle 45-35, but could not overcome the Cougars' 27 steals.
