Men's Ice Hockey Nets Nine Goals in Win Over Brockport

BROCKPORT, N.Y. (Oct. 28, 2023) - The Cougars bounced back after Friday's loss with a 9-4 victory over the Golden Eagles (1-1-0). After going down 2-0, Chatham responded with a 7-0 second period to put the game out of reach.

Brockport earned an early two-goal advantage after scoring at the 6:43 and 35-second marks of the first. However, that would be the last time the team saw the back of the net until early in the third period. Chatham would mark up seven goals during that time, starting off with sophomore Caden Smith's first goal of the season 47 seconds into the second period.

Shots on goal favored the Cougars 16-13 for the second, leading to freshman Nicholas Babbie's first career goal from fellow classmate Camden Smith and junior Chris Drusek. Three minutes later, freshman Michael Roby one-timed a pass from sophomore Bekk McClaine, earning his first career goal. Midway through the period, junior Zack Conner netted his first goal of the season with the help of sophomores Nick Cyprian and Caden Smith. A minute later, McClaine joined the attack with an unassisted, short-handed goal to bring the Cougars lead to 5-2. Cyprian would score on a power play with the aid of Caden Smith and McClaine, and freshman Milan Cermak closed the period on a short-handed breakaway goal with the help of junior Carson Grainer

While the Golden Eagles managed to score twice in the third, Chatham would match both goals. Sophomore Cristian Adragna would light the lamp early in the period by way of assists from freshmen Kadsen Johnson and Babbie. At the 6:09 mark of the final period, McClaine would notch his second goal of the game, with Roby being credited with the assist.

The Cougars outscored the Golden Eagles 9-2 after the first period. Freshman goalie Cameron Kuntar made 31 saves against multiple man-down situations.

With this win, Chatham sits even at a record of 1-1-0. The team will prepare for their conference opener against Kings College on Nov. 3.
