NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. (Oct. 18, 2023) - Women's Volleyball struggled to hit in their 1-3 loss to Westminster (13-10, 3-3), putting an end to the program-record eight-game win streak. The Cougars recorded their third-lowest hitting percentage (.096) of the year and tallied a season-high 36 attacking errors. Chatham now stands at 4-1 in PAC play, tied with Bethany, Allegheny, and Washington and Jefferson.
Offensively, it was an inefficient hitting night. Freshman
Becca Gesner had the highest hitting percentage at .462, followed by sophomore
Alyssa Leskovac and senior
Jena Williams who both hit below .200. Multiple Chatham players recorded kills led by Leskovac's 12, senior
Amelia Bogovich's 11, and Williams' 10. Freshman
Paige Watson (9) and Gesner (8) contributed with a combined 17 kills. Freshman
Ava Plunkard led the match with 27 assists, followed by senior
Jessie Spoerndle's 14.
Defensively, the Purple and Gray gave up 67 points, which is their second-highest for the year. Granted, this production was due in most part to the wall of Titan defenders sending back 12 Cougar attacks. Senior
Meghan Dominek had 25 digs, trailed by Leskovac's 24, sophomore
Sierra Ricci's 13, and Williams' 11. The Cougars were able to deny six attacks by the Titans, led by Williams' and Watson's three block assists.
Women's Volleyball will look to start new against Thiel on Oct. 20 in Greenville.
