Dugan Becomes Third Cougar to Reach 100 Career Points

BETHANY, W.Va. – April 27, 2022 – Graduate student Dillon Dugan made history Wednesday afternoon, becoming the third Chatham Cougar to eclipse 100 career points in the Cougars' dominant 15-1 victory over Bethany. He was one of seven different players to tally goals, improving Chatham's record to 5-10 overall and 3-3 in PAC play.

Both teams got a goal in the first period, with Chatham breaking the ice in the chilly hills of West Virginia. That icebreaker was scored by first-year Paul Freyre, with a helper by classmate Luke Witherell just a little over three minutes in. Bethany scored with four minutes remaining in the frame to tie the score after one.

After the opening stanza, it was all Chatham. The Cougars got five goals in the second, four in the third, and an additional five in the fourth periods. In the second, five different Cougars scored goals. Freyre added his second of five goals for the game, alongside Witherell, classmate Justin Cook, and senior Adam Bleess fired in two goals to put the Cougars up 6-1.

In the third, Freyre struck for two more along with another score by witherell. Then with just under five minutes to play in the third, Dugan recorded his history-making goal to reach triple digit career points.

In the fourth, Freyre once again added another goal, but the scoring was distributed as well. First-year Ethan Rinker fired in his first and only goal of the game late in the contest, then senior Andrew Mattingly lassoed a pair of goals. The scoring was rounded out with just over a minute remaining by Cook.

Chatham healthily outshot Bethany 53-16 for the game and 43-14 on goal. They scooped up 55 ground balls and forced 30 Bison turnovers, the most caused by a Chatham defense this season. Additionally, first-year Rei O'Brien handed out four assists. Senior Shane Gaglione was a brick wall in net, stopping 13 of 14 shots with his only mishap coming early in the contest.

Chatham faces an imperative test to conclude the regular season on Saturday, April 30 at home against Thiel. Face off begins at 1:00.
