LATROBE, Pa. – April 25, 2022 – The Chatham University men's lacrosse team struggled to find significant offense Monday evening, falling 15-6 to Saint Vincent on the road. The Cougars' record drops to 4-10 overall and 2-3 in PAC action.
After SVC scored 88 seconds in, senior
Adam Bleess went on to score the first of his three consecutive goals to tie the game. However, the Bearcats immediately responded just six ticks later to go ahead for the next, and last, time. Bleess was assisted by classmate
Kyle Rullan to conclude the scoring in the first, with Chatham behind 5-2.
The Cougars were silenced in the second period, falling behind 8-2 at the break. With the deficit ballooning to eight goals, Bleess and first-year
Paul Freyre scored back-to-back tallies in the third, the latter of the goals being assisted by first-year
Justin Cook. Chatham trailed 11-4 after three.
The Cougar offense broke through for two goals in the fourth to cut the Bearcat lead to five goals, with Freyre scoring on both attempts with classmates
Rei O'Brien and
Ethan Rinker assisting on each of his scores. However, the Saint Vincent defense held Chatham without a goal for the remainder of the contest.
Chatham was outshot 30-43 for the game and 26-22 for the game. While the shots on goal were fairly even, Saint Vincent's goalie had a save percentage of .727. The Cougars were also ineffective in six extra-man chances. First-year
Zen Smith made 11 saves, posting a .423 save percentage. Bleess and Freyre both had three points, all being goals.
Chatham falls out of the top four in the PAC but have a chance to work into a potential tie for fourth with a road game at Bethany on Wednesday, April 27 at 4:00.
