STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – April 20, 2022 – Senior
Adam Bleess made history Wednesday night, becoming the first Cougar to eclipse 100 career goals in a 17-10 victory at Franciscan. Chatham's record improves to 4-9 overall and evens the conference mark to 2-2.
The Cougars wasted little time getting on the board, only taking 1:17 to draw first blood on a goal by graduate
Patrick Brunner and a helper by first-year
Rei O'Brien. After Franciscan knotted the game at 1-1, Bleess scored the first of his three first half goals to go up 2-1, then first-year
Luke Witherell got an assist from O'Brien to make the score 3-1. Bleess's 100
th career goal made the score 4-3 after one.
The Barons tied the game in the start of the second, but senior
Kyle Rullan broke that tie after O'Brien assisted on his third tally of the game. Chatham added on with scores by senior
Nicholas Guaglione, Bleess again, then sophomore
Riley Lewis, all of which were unassisted, putting Chatham ahead 8-5 at the break.
The third was dominated by the Cougars. It was in the middle of a span in which Chatham scored 11 of 12 goals to take a commanding lead. Guaglione twice, Rullan, Rinker, and first-year
Paul Freyre all fired successful shots to make the score 13-6 after three. That was followed with goals by Guaglione, first-year
Jacob Sin, senior
Dillon Dugan and first-year
Justin Cook. Sin's goal was helped by senior
Gilchrist Quansah, his first career points. Franciscan scored the final four goals, but those came in vain as the outcome had been decided.
Chatham dominated the shots department, 63-19 for the game and 35-14 on goal. They also gobbled up a season-high 60 ground balls and forced 22 Baron turnovers. First-year
Zen Smith played three quarters and made four saves, while seniors
Shane Gaglione and
Gregory Hensley concluded the fourth quarter.
Chatham travels to Saint Vincent on Monday, April 25 for a marquee matchup with the Bearcats at 4:00.
