NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – April 2, 2022 – The Chatham men's lacrosse team began the 2022 conference schedule the same way its 2021 season came to an end, with a matchup against Westminster. This one did not end in the Cougars' favor as they fell 15-7, dropping Chatham's record to 2-8.
The Cougars struck first to begin the game when graduate
Patrick Brunner got an assist from first-year
Ethan Rinker. It would be the last time Chatham held the lead for the duration of the game despite tying the game late after a faceoff win by junior
Zach Mayan with a helper issued by first-year
Tom Curtin. The Titans scored all three second quarter goals to go up 5-2 at the break.
Despite Rinker getting a goal to start the third quarter, Westminster went on a roll by scoring six of the next seven goals in the third period. Rinker went on to score twice more, once in the third and the final of the game coming late, but Chatham's fate had already been sealed. Brunner and first-year
Rei O'Brien also scored unassisted goals.
Chatham was outshot 50-27 for the game and 32-14 on goal. In the cage, first-year
Zen Smith made 17 saves on 32 shots thrown his direction.
The Cougars host Grove City one week from Saturday at UPMC Graham Field, with game time slated for 12:00.
