PITTSBURGH, Pa. – April 12, 2022 – The Chatham University baseball team's 2-0 lead after the second inning quickly evaporated Tuesday night as it fell to Washington & Jefferson 7-2, dropping the Cougars' record to 8-14 overall.

Chatham's big second inning started with an RBI triple by senior
Nico Cuello, his team-leading third of the season, which scored the Cougars' first run. That was followed with a groundout by first-year
Brady Wingeart inducing the Cuello run.

However, the Cougars' momentum was swiftly halted with a series of miscues. They committed three errors in the decisive third inning which allowed four runs to score, all of which were unearned.

The Presidents then led off the fourth with a solo home run to go up 5-2. Both teams' defenses dominated the middle innings until W&J got an RBI double in the seventh and an RBI base hit in the eighth, putting the score at the final 7-2 tally.

At the end of the night, Chatham committed five errors for the game. It was also doubled up on base hits 10-5 by the Presidents. Senior
Caleb Lehman had a couple of base hits. The big difference offensively ended up being the W&J pitching. The Cougars were struck out a season-high 13 times in the defeat.

Junior
Eric Paulin took the loss in a 3.0 inning start despite not allowing any earned runs on two hits surrendered. Senior
Mason Akers had a 3.2 inning relief performance, striking out one alongside sophomore
Mitchell Thornton in 1.0 frame and first-year
David McSorley in an additional 1.1 innings.

Chatham begins a weekend series with Bethany, starting with a nine-inning game on Friday at 3:00 on the road.
