Rullan Notches 100th Point as Men’s Lacrosse Downs Allegheny

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – March 19, 2022 – The Cougars got back in the win column in their LoveStrong51 game Saturday afternoon, downing the Allegheny College Gators 12-7 to improve Chatham's record to 2-5 in non-conference action.

The Gators scored the first two goals of the game relatively early on, but the man of the hour was senior Kyle Rullan, who scored the first of two goals in route to securing his 100th career point. His first quarter score marked the only tally of the stanza for the Cougars, who trailed 2-1 after 15 minutes.

The scoring was reversed in the second quarter, with the Cougars outscoring the Gators 2-1 to put the score at 3-3 at half. Chatham's goals were scored by senior Nicholas Guaglione and graduate Patrick Brunner, with the latter of the tallies assisted by first-year Justin Cook.

In the third quarter, Chatham dominated from bell to bell. It scored its five goals within a 10-minute span to go ahead for good. Cook and Guaglione scored the first two, with Cook adding another late in the period, and then graduate Dillon Dugan added a pair of goals of his own as Chatham held a commanding 8-3 lead after three.

Fourth quarter scoring was split with both teams scoring four goals each. First-year Ethan Rinker had a response to a Gator goal, the first of three straight for the youngster. Rullan scored the final goal, which covered the 100-point career milestone. Rullan is the second Cougar in program history to eclipse 100 career points, originally set by classmate Adam Bleess.

Chatham outshot Allegheny 42-34 for the game and 23-19 on goal. The Cougars also dominated in the ground ball department, gobbling up 43 compared to the visitors' 29. Rinker, Rullan and Cook all scored three points apiece with Rinker having a hat trick of goals. Dugan and Guaglione scored twice, Brunner once, and first-year Rei O'Brien added two assists with one additional helper by senior Andrew Mattingly. First-year goalie Zen Smith notched his first career win in the cage, making 12 saves and allowing just five goals.

The Cougars go on the road for the next three games, starting on Wednesday, March 23 at 7:00 against Baldwin Wallace.
